Watch our virtual panel discussion in our Campaign for the Culture conversation series.
Tobacco use remains a persistent and preventable threat to the health, readiness and long-term well-being of those who serve and have served. For generations, tobacco was woven into military life, included in rations, sold at discounted prices on bases and embedded in military culture.
The tobacco industry has historically targeted military communities, leading to disproportionate health and economic impacts. Today, the industry continues to target those who serve with its latest products, including highly-addictive e-cigarettes and nicotine pouches. Service members face unique cultural and structural factors that contribute to higher rates of tobacco use, underscoring the need for tailored, culturally-competent prevention and cessation support.
This conversation centers veteran voices and explores what accountability, healing and effective support truly look like while identifying concrete steps to advance a tobacco-free military and veteran community. Together, we can ensure those who serve are not disproportionately impacted by tobacco use.
