The AHPA serves as Quality Assurance and Disease Intervention Specialist within the Disease Intervention Section of the STD Control Branch. The main objective of DIS activities are to prevent and control disease transmission by (1) ensuring that people who have been diagnosed or exposed to a communicable disease are promptly examined and adequately treated, and (2) by collecting data that can be used to inform programmatic action. The DIS also serves as the link between public health and private health care providers, confirms communicable disease diagnosis, and supporting outbreak response and emergency preparedness with a focus on contact investigation, data collection, and field investigation.
