Deep Humanities Lecture:
From Precision to Predictive: Genetic Revolution to Healthcare and Beyond — Dr. Jamie Metzl
April 10, 2019 @ 7:30 pm
We are on the verge of a genetic revolution. Precision medicine tools like genome sequencing, big data analytics, and targeted gene therapies are paving the way for predictive healthcare and genetic engineering. This revolution will fundamentally transform our healthcare, the way we make babies, and the nature of the babies we make, but health professionals, the business community, and society at large are not at all ready.
Dr. Jamie Metzl is a leading futurist, geopolitical expert, science fiction novelist, media commentator, Senior Fellow of the Atlantic Council, and member of the World Health Organization expert advisory committee on human genome editing.
The Deep Humanities Series leverages the arts and humanities to engage key questions of our time. San José State University's College of Humanities and the Arts is excited to add Dr. Metzl to a line-up of distinguished speakers, who have brought and will continue to bring thought-provoking topics to the forefront of discussion.
Sponsored by the Office of the President, the Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering, the College of Humanities and the Arts, and the College of Health and Human Sciences at San José State University.
This event is free for all valid Tower ID Card holders. Each ID can admit one person at the Hammer Theatre Box Office.
