| The
Northern California Chapter of the Society for Public
Health Education, Inc. (NCSOPHE) is a professional organization
for health educators. Individuals who are actively engaged
in health education, students, and emeriti comprise the
membership of NCSOPHE. Assuming a broad range of responsibilities
in a variety of settings, members share a common goal:
to promote, encourage, and contribute to the advancement
of the health of all people through the practice of health
education. Originating
in 1952 as the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter, NCSOPHE
became known as the Northern California Chapter ten
years later. NCSOPHE was the first chapter of the Society
for Public Health Education, Inc. or National SOPHE.
The need for a professional organization arose in the
early 1950s as health educators were becoming recognized
as members of the public health team. National SOPHE,
and subsequently NCSOPHE, were developed to meet this
need as they worked to promote ethics and standards
within the profession as well as to encourage communication
among health educators.
Encompassing all of Northern California,
NCSOPHE is proud to serve its members. The programs,
services, and opportunities offered by NCSOPHE aim to
meet the current and future needs of health educators.
